Chief of Minimally Invasive and Robotic Adult Urologic
Surgery
Domenico Savatta, M.D., graduated Tau Beta Pi, and summa
cum Laude from The Cooper Union for advancement of Science
and Art with a B.S. in engineering. He then attended SUNY
Stony Brook School of Medicine and was an AOA graduate.
Thereafter, he completed a six-year residency in urology
at the prestigious Indiana University Medical Center, world-renowned
for the treatment of testicular cancer and other urologic
malignancies.
Dr.
Savatta's practice is devoted to adult urology. During
his residency he trained under the direction of several
leaders in the field of urologic oncology, endourology,
reconstructive urology and prosthetic urology. He has participated
in research involving minimally invasive ways to ablate
renal tissue, including new laparoscopic techniques and
high intensity focused ultrasound ablation of kidneys.
Dr.
Savatta is a member of the American Urological Association,
The Endourologic Society, and the Society of Laparoscopic
Surgeons. His interests include robotic and laparoscopic
urology, including da Vinci ® robotic prostatectomy,
robotic nephrectomy and robotic pyeloplasty; urologic oncology,
including the surgical treatment of testicular cancer;
and reconstructive urology, including the creation of bladder
replacements and continent urinary diversions.
Dr.
Savatta is a leader in robotic surgery and has performed
the first da Vinci® prostatectomy in
the Morris/Essex/Union county area (December 2004) and
the first robotic partial nephrectomy in New Jersey (May
2005) and is a pioneer in advanced robotic surgery.
He performed over 1000 Robotic procedures including over
600 Robotic Prostatectomies, and over 100 robotic kidney
cases. He averages approximately 20 robotic cases per month.
Articles published:
Robotic Partial Nephrectomy: A Multi-Institutional Analysis, Journal
of Robotic Surgery, Vol. 2, # 3, September, 2008
Transperitioneal Robotic-Assisted Laparoscopic Radical
Prostatectomy and Inguinal Herniorrhaphy, Journal
of Robotic Surgery, vol. 1, # 4, February, 2008
He’s also written abstracts on Continence Techniques
for prostatectomy and eliminating the need to have blood
available for prostate cancer surgery.
