NEWARK BETH ISRAEL MEDICAL CENTER NAMES GEORGE THUMPAYIL MANAGER OF THE MONTH NEWARK, NJ -- George Thumpayil, RRT, CPFT, NPS, clinical specialist of Respiratory Care Services at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, an affiliate of the Saint Barnabas Health Care System, was named Manager of the Month for January 2006. Thumpayil was nominated for his lead role in coordinating departmental activities during his interim role as director of Respiratory Care Services, overseeing efforts for a survey by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, for a gas shut down project and educational seminars, among other tasks. With perfect attendance since beginning his career at Newark Beth Israel nearly 11 years ago, Thumpayil also performs in-service education programs on Nitric Oxide therapy and High Frequency Oscillatory ventilation for medical center staff. In addition to his daily responsibilities for Newark Beth Israel, Thumpayil teaches respiratory care students from Bergen Community College, Paramus, as an Adjunct Faculty. He is a member of AARC, NBRC, NJSRC & NJTS. When not at work, Thumpayil volunteers in the community. He serves his church, St. Thomas Orthodox, in various capacities. He is currently the Secretary and a Director of Fr. Matthew Kunnath Charitable Foundation Inc., a non-profit organization. He is the Secretary of Fine Arts Malayalam Club, which promotes arts and culture. He serves as a Special Correspondent for Malayalam Pathram, an ethnic main stream newspaper that reports news and events about the Indian community living in the United States. He is the New Jersey Bureau Chief of Orthodox Herald, a web based newspaper that reports news and events of Orthodox Christians around the world. He also serves the visual media, Asianet, in the capacity of News Editor for their America Today edition. He is the President of both Wide Angle Productions and Thumpayil Associates Inc., which are known for their lead roles in enhancing art, culture and music presentations. He has received several awards from organizations such as Federation of Kerala Associations in North America for his investigative and developmental journalism work. He has also been a key player in producing various Christian devotional music CDs and DVDs and he has 4 books in his credit. He has visited various countries including Israel, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, Germany, Netherlands and Brazil as part of his journalistic explorations. A native of Kerala, India, Thumpayil resides in West Orange with his wife, Indira, a Nurse Practitioner at Newark Beth Israel, and his two children. Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, an affiliate of the Saint Barnabas Health Care System, is a 673-bed regional referral teaching hospital with specialized programs including heart and kidney transplantation, cardiac surgery, robotic surgery, oncology, and maternal/child health services.
