Newark, NJ -- Barbara Doran, MA, RN, BC,
FN-CSA, Nursing Education Specialist in the Department of Nursing
Education at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, has been chosen
to receive the New Jersey League for Nursing’s “2009
Nursing Recognition Award.” She was selected for demonstrating
excellence in nursing and will receive the honor at 2009 Nurse
Recognition Awards & Autumn Gala on November 6th, 2009 at The
Pines Manor.
“Barbara Doran exemplifies excellence in nursing professional
development,” says John A. Brennan, MD, Executive Director
of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children’s Hospital
of New Jersey. “Her true calling and love for the specialty
emanate through all of her work. She is an outstanding educator.”
Hundreds of Garden State nurses and educators will salute the
nurse stars of 2009 at the upcoming Gala. The New Jersey League
for Nursing offers continuing education programs relative to current
health care issues to provide a forum for improving nursing practice
and building a strong and diverse nursing workforce to meet the
needs of New Jersey’s population.
Ms. Doran, a Scotch Plains resident, is responsible for developing,
facilitating and providing professional development activities
at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center (NBIMC). Among
her many duties, she coordinates and teaches in Generic Nursing
Orientation; facilitates and provides in-service and continuing
education programs; oversees the facility’s New Jersey State
Nurse’s Association’s (NJSNA) Continuing Education
Providership; and acts as a preceptor to graduate nursing students.
She also acts as a professional development resource and mentor
to staff, and members of the Patient Care Leadership Team.
Outstanding Teaching Skills
“Barbara Doran has made outstanding contributions to nursing
practice at the state, local and facility level through her coaching
and mentoring of students as well as experienced nurses,” says
Roseann DiBrienza, MS, RN, Vice President of Patient Care Services
at The Beth. “One of her greatest contributions is helping
nursing students feel more secure and confident about their career
choice. We are very pleased and proud that the New Jersey League
for Nursing has recognized Barbara’s contributions and has
chosen her to receive the 2009 Nursing Recognition Award.”
Her nomination describes the “consistent positive feed
back from participants” of her many educational symposiums
and classes. One respondent from her class noted: “This is
the third time I have had the pleasure of learning with Barbara. In
my 28 years of nursing, I have yet to experience the quality, professionalism
and effectiveness of Barbara’s way of teaching.” She
also frequently mentors nurses and offers guidance and support
to staff at NBIMC.
She is a member of the New Jersey State Nurses Association Review
Team for Continuing Education, the Consortium of New Jersey Nurse
Educators – Treasurer, the International Association of Forensic
Nurses, the American Nurses Association / New Jersey State Nurses
Association, the National Nursing Staff Development Organization
an a volunteer for Union County Medical Reserve Corps.
