Surgeon Adam Kopelan, MD, FACS, of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center Appointed Cancer Liaison Physician

Newark, NJ - Adam Kopelan, MD, an associate fellow of the American College of Surgeons, has been appointed as Cancer Liaison Physician to the American College of Surgeon’s Commission on Cancer.

Dr. Kopelan is Vice Chairman of Surgery and Chief of Minimally Invasive Surgery, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Chief, General Surgery, Saint Barnabas Medical Center. He specializes in General and Minimally Invasive Surgery (Laparoscopic and Robotic). He completed his medical degree at New York University, NY, and his residency and research fellowship at the University of Chicago. He is board-certified in General Surgery.

Established by the American College of Surgeons in 1922, the multidisciplinary Commission on Cancer establishes standards to ensure quality and comprehensive cancer care delivery in health care settings; conducts surveys in health care settings to assess compliance with those standards; collects standardized data from health care settings to measure cancer care quality; uses data to monitor and enhance treatment patterns and outcomes, and develops effective educational interventions to improve cancer prevention, early detection, and cancer care delivery.

The Department of Surgery is comprised of the Divisions of General Surgery, Surgical Oncology, Peripheral Vascular Surgery, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics, Urology, ENT (Ear, Nose & Throat), Ophthalmology, Podiatry and Pediatric Surgery. In addition, Cardiothoracic Surgery, including Cardiac Transplantation, is located within the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
