Llanfair House to Host Free Dementia Screening and Workshop

Wayne, NJ --  On Thursday, July 31, at 11:00 a.m., Llanfair House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wayne will host “Caring for You…Caring for Me” a free dementia workshop and screening presented by Theresa M. Redling, DO, FACP, Chief of the Division of Geriatric Medicine at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center.  The program will include a discussion about the signs and symptoms of dementia and coping with the stress of caregiving.  Dementia screenings will also be held, by appointment only, beginning at Noon for caregivers and/or their loved ones.  Refreshments will be served.

Common Signs of Caregiver Stress:

  • Social withdrawal from friends, family and activities that once brought pleasure.
  • Anxiety over facing another day and what the future holds.
  • Lack of concentration making it difficult to perform familiar tasks.
  • Health problems begin to surface as you neglect you own well-being.

Common Symptoms of Dementia:

  • Decline in the ability to perform routine tasks.
  • Loss of language skills.
  • Personality changes.
  • Problems with reasoning or judgment.
