Recovering from an amputation is an emotional process that requires
patience and persistence. The Llanfair House Nursing
and Rehabilitation Center Amputee Recovery Program
provides comprehensive, state-of-the-art rehabilitation
services for patients who have undergone a lower
extremity amputation. The goal of the program is
to assist each patient in obtaining and managing
a permanent prosthesis prior to leaving Llanfair
House – a crucial step in the recovery process for an individual
who has experienced an amputation.
The Amputee Recovery Program helps
patients achieve their highest level of functioning
and independence, while also addressing their physical,
emotional, and social needs. Patients work with
a multidisciplinary team of physical, occupational,
recreation, and speech therapists; dieticians;
social workers; physicians; and nurses to learn
how to manage their permanent prosthesis and return
to an active and independent lifestyle.
Prior to discharge, the
patient and his or her loved ones also learn about
medication management, social support resources,
and opportunities for continued therapies.
