LIVINGSTON, N.J.— John F.
Bonamo, M.D., M.S., Executive Director at Saint Barnabas
Medical Center, is pleased to announce the appointment of
Richard Miller, M.D., perinatologist and associate director
of the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, as Chairman of
the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
“Dr. Miller, an esteemed perinatologist extensively
trained in the field of Maternal Fetal Medicine, will be
a great asset to the state’s largest obstetrical service,” said
Dr. Bonamo.
Dr. Miller is an associate director with New Jersey Perinatal
Associates, which is located at Saint Barnabas Medical Center.
As a perinatologist, he is an expert in the treatment of
women who anticipate or are experiencing a high-risk pregnancy.
The members of the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine assist
obstetricians in the tri-state area in the care of high-risk
patients. They also educate the Medical Center’s many
obstetrical residents.
Dr. Miller graduated from Georgetown University School of
Medicine and completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology
at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. He
completed his fellowship training in Maternal Fetal Medicine
at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 1991.
Before coming to Saint Barnabas in 1996, he spent four years
as Director of the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at
the National Naval Medical Center and was amember of the
faculty at the Uniformed Services University of the Health
Sciences and the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Miller’s
research interests include outcome-based analysis of prenatal
care and prenatal diagnosis.
“The leadership of the Department of Obstetrics and
Gynecology at Saint Barnabas has spearheaded an outstanding
program and I will continue that vision,” says Dr.
Miller. “My experience as a clinician will assist me
in enhancing current programs and services to continue to
address the health care needs of New Jersey women.”
Saint Barnabas Medical Center meets the needs of women throughout
the lifecycle. The Medical Center has the largest obstetrical
service in the state, with more than 7,200 babies born at
the hospital each year. The four subspecialty Divisions within
the Department, with exceptionally qualified staff, provide
outstanding medical care for women with gynecologic cancers;
those with high-risk or complicated pregnancy; women with
conditions that effect the menstrual cycle, fertility and
hormonal issues; and women with conditions including pelvic
organ prolapse, urinary stress and/or urge incontinence,
overactive bladder, interstitial cystitis and other urogynecologic
problems.
