Serena H. Chen, M.D., Director of the Division of Reproductive
Medicine and Director of the Egg Donation Program at the Institute
for Reproductive Medicine and Science at Saint Barnabas Medical Center,
received a Family Building Award from the American Fertility Association
(AFA).
The AFA Family Building Award honorees are recognized for their
commitment and determination to help those with reproductive difficulties.
They are honored for using their expertise and dedication to patient
care to help couples build families.
The award was presented on November 7 at the 2005 Kokopelli Ball
in New York City, which honors the achievements of fertility physicians,
scientists, and advocates.
National AFA spokeswoman Brenda Strong, an actress (Desperate Housewives’ Mary-Alice
Young) was the master of ceremonies; actor Jason Alexander (Seinfeld’s
George Costanza) was a special guest; and television host and author
Joan Lunden received a media award.
The AFA is a national fertility patient organization dedicated
to educating, researching, supporting and advocating for reproductive
health, fertility preservation, infertility and family building.
Dr. Chen has significant experience and expertise in the treatment
of infertility, laparoscopy and hysteroscopy, as well as female reproductive
endocrinology. She has also pursued a special interest in polycystic
ovarian syndrome, gamete donation and preimplantaton genetic diagnosis.
Board certified in obstetrics and gynecology, as well as reproductive
endocrinology and infertility, she received her undergraduate degree
from Brown University, and her medical degree from the Duke University
School of Medicine. She completed her residency in obstetrics and
gynecology, and a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility
at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.
