The goal of inpatient treatment is to stabilize and manage acute symptoms of psychiatric illness and addiction and to provide a strong foundation for the next appropriate level of care. Hospitalization should be as brief and least restrictive as is consistent with effective treatment. Throughout the Network, inpatient admission, continued stay and discharge are based on the needs of each client.
For clients of all ages, treatment planning is based on a complete biopsychosocial assessment to identify a client's overall health, developmental needs, emotional issues and support systems. Early involvement of family and significant others is a key component of care. All multidisciplinary treatment teams are led by a board-certified psychiatrist who sees clients daily and coordinates all aspects of care.
The SBBHN continuum of care allows clients in the acute care setting to move to less restrictive levels of care while maintaining continuity of treatment. The smooth transition occurs as a result of SBBHN's vast resources and careful discharge planning. Aftercare is fully coordinated by an SBBHN case worker who works with referring professionals, social service agencies, and other community supports to ensure appropriate transitions and continued progress.
Our case workers maintain a close relationship with community mental health agencies, social services agencies and other resources which are critical to successful community living for the chronically mentally ill.
