Cancer Survivorship Series: Weight Gain and Lifestyle Changes

Often following treatment for cancer, patients find that they need support that is different from their needs while in active treatment. To offer assistance, The Cancer Centers of Saint Barnabas Medical Center will present 11-part Cancer Survivorship Lecture Series entitled “Project H.O.P.E. (Helping Our Patients Excel).”  At this program the speaker will be Abby Blaustein, MS, RD, CDE, Manager of the Siegler Center for Integrative Medicine and the Obesity and Weight Management Center. These free programs will provide an opportunity for cancer survivors and their families to hear from our multidisciplinary team at Saint Barnabas. Those who have experienced a loss during pregnancy or the death of a newborn often benefit from sharing their distress and receiving support from others who have suffered a similar tragedy. The group offers this support to help parents come to terms with their grief. Meetings are usually held the first Wednesday of each month. Weight Loss Surgery Options

Saint Barnabas’s Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence is led by accomplished laparoscopic bariatric surgeons who are respected members of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Our goal is to develop a relationship with you and support you throughout your journey to better health. Pedaling for Prevention Bike Ride

Saint Barnabas Burn Foundation and PSE&G will sponsor this family-friendly bike ride in support of The Burn Center at Saint Barnabas. Riders will enjoy a 40-, 25- or 10-mile ride which loops through the scenic Great Swamp Refuge and tree-lines communities of Morris and Somerset Counties. The course is professionally managed and includes rest stops, water, Gatorade, refreshments and a post-race party. Teddy Bear Clinic

Saint Barnabas Medical Center invites children between the ages of 4 and 8 to bring their Teddy Bears or favorite stuffed animals to this clinic to learn about medical equipment and procedures to become comfortable with visiting a hospital. It will follow an open house format. Parents and children can arrive anytime between 1:00 and 2:30 p.m. to experience the interactive play stations at their leisure.Free parking and refreshments will be provided.
