I-STAT In an effort to bring laboratory testing to the bedside as much as possible, the Emergency Department has adapted I-STAT portable chemistry analyzers to their work. The I-STAT reads a few drops of blood from a patient's finger and provides six different laboratory test results in about 90 seconds, eliminating the need to have the blood sent to a laboratory in the Medical Center. By reducing the time it takes to receive test results, the I-STAT allows patients to be diagnosed more rapidly and discharged or admitted more quickly. [ top ] |
