Department of Emergency Services

Traige Suite

Immediately adjacent to the Emergency Department's reception area is a Triage Suite where the needs of patients are assessed to facilitate expedient and appropriate care and to reduce waiting times.

Upon arrival, a registered nurse will see you at triage. This is the beginning of your medical treatment. The triage nurse will ask the reason for your visit, inquire about your medical history and perform a brief exam. Triage is done to help determine the severity of your condition and to insure that the most urgent patients are seen by a physician first. This is why someone who arrives after you may be treated before you.

Some patients with minor injuries may receive "Express Care." The triage nurse may imitate limited diagnostic tests in order to move the patient through this process.
