Information to support parents.

For ParentsWe understand that:

  • Children who have weight problems may feel bad about themselves and experience social challenges.
  • Family interactions around food can be difficult.
  • Many children are not as active as they should be.
  • Parents may feel helpless or guilty about the problem.
  • Our culture encourages unhealthy living by constant availability of food, excessive portions, and low necessity for physical activity.

Benefits of healthy living

  • Children can do what they want to do.
  • Children can enjoy activities to the fullest extent.
  • Children feel good about themselves and avoid suffering from discomforts, limitations, and emotional problems.
  • Children are more comfortable on a social and practical level.
  • Prevention of health problems, mobility problems, and diseases in the future.

What You Can Do

  • Be a role model by living a healthier lifestyle yourself.
  • Praise your child for healthy choices, efforts and achievements.
  • Help your child plan for challenging situations—like parties, restaurants, school, vacations, and bad weather.
