New Pediatric Staff Welcomed

Brian K. O’Connor, M.D., FACC
Director, Pediatric Arrhythmia Service
The Children’s Heart Center.

Dr. O’Connor is the Director of the Pediatric Arrhythmia Service at the Children’s Hospital of New Jersey. Dr. O’Connor has completed training in both Pediatric Cardiology and Pediatric Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacing. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and of the American College of Cardiology. Dr. O’Connor also is a member of the Heart Rhythm Society and the Pediatric Electrophysiology Society. He is board-certified in both Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology.

The Pediatric Arrhythmia Service, under the direction of Dr. O’Connor, offers diagnostic evaluation of abnormal heart rhythms, palpitations, fainting episodes, and inherited heart rhythm disorders in children and young adults. This includes Holter monitor assessment of rhythm, treadmill exercise study, cardiac event and loop recorder services, Tilt table evaluation of syncope and diagnostic electrophysiology study. In addition the division provides pre-sports participation screening in young athletes. Management of arrhythmias, once diagnosed, includes a full range of therapy from the use of antiarrhythmic medications, curative, nonsurgical procedures (catheter ablation), or the implantation of pacemakers and cardioverterdefibrillator devices.

Dr. O’Connor graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed his pediatric residency at the New England Medical Center. His completed a cardiology fellowship at the University of Michigan Medical Center, and completed his electrophysiology fellowship with Paul Gillette, MD, at Children’s Cardiac Arrhythmia Center, Medical University of South Carolina.

Dr. O’Connor joined the Children’s Hospital of New Jersey from the New York University Medical Center, where he served as Director of the Pediatric Cardiac Electrophysiology Division.

Barry A. Cohen, MD Pediatrics,
Pediatric Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine

Dr. Cohen is a board-certified physician in Pediatrics, Barry A. Cohen, M.D.Pediatric Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine. He has been treating children with sleep disorders for almost 20 years and is considered an expert in infant apnea. He specializes in pediatric pulmonary medicine, along with Dorothy S. Bisberg, MD, at the Pediatric Specialty Center, located at the Saint Barnabas Ambulatory Care Center, and also treats both adults and children with sleep disorders at The Kazmir Center for Sleep Disorders at Saint Barnabas Medical Center.

Dr. Cohen received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He performed his residency in Pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital Medical Center of Akron and completed a fellowship in Pediatric Pulmonology at the Children’s Hospital of Buffalo. He received his training in Sleep Medicine at the School of Sleep Medicine in Palo Alto. Dr. Cohen has had faculty appointments at Ohio State University School of Medicine; John A. Burns School of Medicine, Hawaii; Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine; Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, Ohio; and Des Moines University, Ohio.

The Division of Pediatric Pulmonology, located at the Saint Barnabas Ambulatory Care Center, provides parents and families the clinical expertise of child and adolescent pulmonologists and sleep specialists trained to evaluate, diagnose and treat children and adolescents dealing with Asthma, Cystic Fibrosis, Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia, Tracheostomy, and Sleep Disorders such as apnea, snoring, and insomnia.

Lara Elizabeth Morse, MD
Pediatric Neurologist
Director of the Pediatric Developmental Center at Saint Barnabas Medical Center

Dr. Morse is a Pediatrician and Pediatric and Adult Neurologist. As Director of the Pediatric Developmental Center at Saint Barnabas, she and her staff provide medical diagnostic services for infants, children and adolescents with developmental problems or learning delays.

Please note that in the recommendations for the pneumococcal vaccine booster it was incorrectly listed that the booster is recommended anywhere between 12-18 months. It should say between 12-15 months.

Dr. Morse along with a team of specially trained health care providers, including neuropsychologists, speech and language pathologists, audiologists, and physical and occupational therapists, help to identify problems and map out long-term treatment plans. As a neurologist, Dr. Morse is also able to address broader neurological issues, which leads to a thorough approach to every child.

The Division of Lara Elizabeth MorseDevelopmental Pediatrics, located at the Saint Barnabas Ambulatory Care Center, offers comprehensive evaluation and treatment with a variety of therapies for the following conditions: Attention Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder, Autism and Pervasive Developmental Disorder, Learning Disabilities, Asperger Syndrome, Social and behavioral problems, developmental delay.

Dr. Morse is a graduate of Dartmouth College and Tufts University School of Medicine. She completed her general pediatric training at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire. She then completed a residency in pediatric and adult neurology at Tufts New England Medical Center/Floating Hospital for Children in Boston, Massachusetts. In addition, she completed a pediatric-epilepsy fellowship at Tufts-New England Medical Center/Floating Hospital for Children.

Before joining the staff at Saint Barnabas Medical Center, Dr. Morse practiced medicine in the Division of Pediatric Neurology at Tufts New England Medical Center/Floating Hospital for Children.
