Free Education Program Continues to Address Livingston, N.J. -- Saint Barnabas Medical Center, which traditionally treats more pediatric patients than any other hospital in New Jersey, is pleased to offer another program in its invaluable, free educational series entitled “Hot Topics for Parents.” Physician experts from The Pediatric Specialty Center of Saint Barnabas Medical Center will address key issues regarding child health and wellness. Parents whose child falls asleep at school, has a low energy level or snores, awakes at night or has trouble falling asleep may be exhibiting behaviors of a sleep disorder. At “When is a Sleep Study Needed?” on December 12, pediatric and adolescent sleep expert, Barry A. Cohen, M.D., will discuss these concerns to help parents determine if a sleep study may be appropriate for their child and offer practical steps for treatment. Dr. Cohen., a board-certified physician in pediatrics, pediatric pulmonology and sleep medicine, has been treating children with sleep disorders for almost 20 years. He specializes in pediatric pulmonary medicine at the Pediatric Specialty Center and also treats both adults and children with sleep disorders at The Kazmir Center for Sleep Disorders at Saint Barnabas. The Pediatric Specialty Center, located at the Saint Barnabas Ambulatory Care Center, offers outpatient pediatric specialty services in the areas of Behavior Development, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Rheumatology, Pulmonology, Allergy, Surgery, Neurology and Sports Medicine. In addition, the Medical Center’s state-of-the-art $8 million Children’s Center is a “hospital within a hospital” designed to meet the medical and emotional needs of young patients and includes child-friendly patient rooms, state-of-the-art nursing stations, new treatment and exam rooms and a cheerfully decorated playroom. The program will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Saint Barnabas Ambulatory Care Center, 200 South Orange Avenue in Livingston. Pre-registration is required by calling 1-888-SBHS-123.
