Saint Barnabas Medical Center Foundation Marks Expansion of Private Maternity Rooms

Livingston, N.J. – Recently, Saint Barnabas Medical Center celebrated the newly renovated and expanded Maternal Child Pavilion at a special gathering held on the new maternity unit.

As a major initiative to further enhance the obstetrical service at Saint Barnabas Medical Center, which each year delivers more babies than any other hospital in the state, the newly constructed unit will help meet the intense demand for private postpartum rooms. This new wing, located on the third floor of the Medical Center, will be offered in addition to the existing 18 private rooms which were added to the sixth floor in 2003.

The Maternal Child Pavilion provides a warm and comforting environment for new mothers and their babies to encourage bonding and celebration. This unit has private rooms each equipped with a private bathroom and shower. Additional enhancements include a state-of-the art nursing station.

The expansion of the Maternal Child Pavilion was made possible through generous gifts to Saint Barnabas Medical Center from Theresa Augustine-Christie, of Madison, and The Saint Barnabas Medical Center Community Advocates.

Guests attending the ceremony included administrators, board members, as well as major donors and supporters of Saint Barnabas Medical Center.

Saint Barnabas Medical Center continuously delivers more babies each year than any other hospital in New Jersey, with approximately 6,600 births annually, ranking Saint Barnabas 13th in the nation. HealthGrades, the nation's leading independent health care quality company, has ranked Saint Barnanabs among the top 5 percent of hospitals in the nation for maternity and women’s health both 2006/7 and 2007/8. Saint Barnabas is the only hospital in New Jersey, and one of only 20 in the country, to receive this dual recognition.
