Saint Barnabas Burn Foundation Honors Young Artists at Poster Contest Awards Program

Recently, in recognition of Burn Awareness Week, Saint Barnabas Burn Foundation held the Nineteenth Annual Burn Awareness Poster Contest Awards Program to honor children from throughout the state who were selected as this year’s winners. The poster contest, which was created to teach youngsters the importance of fire safety and burn prevention, drew more that 200 entries from nine counties.

The top three finishers received a $200, $150 and $100 U.S. Savings Bond, respectively, and included: Aine Tucker of Ringwood, Chelsea Lopez of Bloomfield, and Sabrina Hamdulla of Jersey City. In addition, a winner from each county (not already represented in the top three) was awarded a $50 U.S. Savings Bond. These winners included: Mercer, Eva Dunte; Middlesex, Mikhaela Jane Leeho; Monmouth, Colleen Barr; Morris, Bryanne Minnella; Sussex, Amelia Fernandez; and Union, Lexie Sinscera.

The contest is sponsored by the Saint Barnabas Burn Foundation and the Aluminum Cans for Burned Children (ACBC) project. ACBC is an aluminum can recycling program involving the voluntary efforts of more than 30 New Jersey fire departments, corporations and organizations. Money raised through the ACBC Program is used to purchase items and services that are essential to the recovery of pediatric burn patients at Saint Barnabas. These items, which are not covered by insurance, might include special protective clothing that helps minimize scarring or bicycles that help youngsters exercise injured arms and legs.  In addition to these essential items, the ACBC Program supports the popular Mobile Fire Safety House Program.
