SECOND ANNUAL WALK FOR HEALTH TO BENEFIT SAINT BARNABAS

Livingston, NJ –The Second Annual Walk For Health… Your Journey to a New Life will be held Saturday, May 3, 2008, at Verona Park, Verona, NJ, to benefit the Weight Management and Obesity Centers at Saint Barnabas Medical Center and Saint Barnabas Ambulatory Care Center.  Registration begins at 10 a.m. with the walk following at 11 a.m.

Proceeds from the walk support important research into the effects of bariatric surgery on patients, purchase equipment to meet the needs of the Medical Center’s obese population, give patients pedometers to kick off their new exercise program, provide scholarships for pediatric patients participating in the Healthy LIFE program and fund any other initiatives that support the patients’ quest towards a healthier lifestyle.

The Weight Management Centers at Saint Barnabas Medical Center and the Saint Barnabas Ambulatory Care Center assist each patient in addressing the many complex issues related to weight management. They also help them to develop and maintain a healthier lifestyle through the Bariatric Center of Excellence, the Healthy LIFE pediatric program, nutritional counseling, behavior therapy, and supervised exercise programs. The Walk for Health helps reinforce Saint Barnabas’ commitment to encourage its patients and the community to live healthy, exercise and maintain a balanced diet.

The walk is a family-focused event with face painting, balloon art, airbrush tattoos and a DJ. This year KTU radio personality and recording artist, Judy Torres, will share her personal story of how she achieved a healthy lifestyle at the walk as she greets the crowd and gets everyone energized. Last year the walk had over 250 participants and raised over $20,000.
