Sleep Concerns Among Children to Be Addressed by Sleep Expert from Saint Barnabas Medical Center

Livingston, N.J. -- Many things may be robbing your child of a good night's sleep and the consequences are more serious than most parents may realize. Your child's health, safety, growth, behavior and ability to learn may be affected.

According to Barry A. Cohen, M.D., a pediatric sleep expert from The Kazmir Center for Sleep Disorders at Saint Barnabas Medical Center, sleeping is one of the most important factors in the success of our children. It is almost as important as eating.

Given the state of nutrition in America's children, with this nationwide epidemic of obesity, it is clear that children are not being exposed, educated or encouraged to make the right food choices," says Dr. Cohen. "The problem pediatricians are seeing is that there are major shortfalls in sleep health as well, and these are often harder to discern."

Parents who are concerned about their child's sleep habits are invited to attend an informative evening with Dr. Cohen entitled Sleep Disorders in Children on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. in Conference A & B at Saint Barnabas Ambulatory Care Center, located at 200 South Orange Avenue in Livingston, N.J.  Space is limited and registration is requested by calling 1-888-724-7123.  Refreshments and free parking will be provided.

The Kazmir Center for Sleep Disorders at Saint Barnabas offers a full range of services used in the evaluation, diagnosis and management of sleep-related disorders in adults and children.  The Center is equipped with the latest in monitoring equipment, providing the opportunity for daytime testing and full overnight sleep studies. Parents stay with their child during the entire sleep evaluation process.
