The Cancer Centers of Saint Barnabas Medical Center Celebrate National Cancer Survivors Day LIVINGSTON, N.J. -- In recognition of the 22nd Annual National Cancer Survivor Day, The Cancer Centers of Saint Barnabas Medical Center invite patients to a Celebration of Life on Sunday, September 13, 2009. The special event, held from 12 noon to 3 p.m., celebrates the courage of cancer survivors, the fortitude of their health caregivers, and the support of their loved ones. The afternoon is hosted by The Cancer Centers of Saint Barnabas Medical Center and will take place at Mayfair Farms in West Orange, New Jersey. Celebration of Life will feature a presentation by Wendy S. Harpham, M.D., entitled “Happiness in a Storm: Embracing Life.” Dr. Harpham is a doctor of internal medicine and a cancer survivor. She is the award-winning and best-selling author of a number of books on cancer survivorship, including: Diagnosis Cancer: Your Guide Through the First Few Months; When a Parent Has Cancer: A Guide to Caring for Your Children, with the companion children’s book Becky and the Worry Cup; and After Cancer: A Guide to Your New Life. The event is open to adults and children over the age of 16 and lunch will be served. Because of limited space, each survivor is welcome to bring one guest. Celebration of Life is one of numerous community and/or educational activities sponsored by The Cancer Centers of Saint Barnabas which feature several specialty services and a full range of state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment programs. These include medical oncology, radiation therapy, cancer genetic counseling and testing, gynecologic oncology, and clinical research, as well as The Valerie Fund Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders. The Cancer Centers provide outpatient facilities with private chemotherapy treatment rooms, a community resource library and extensive psychosocial support programs.
