Livingston, NJ – On Wednesday, October 21, 2009, Saint Barnabas Medical Center invites community members to “An Evening with Meredith Vieira.” The nine-time Emmy Award-winning journalist, co-host of NBC’s Today show, wife and mother of three will share stories from her unique career which spans 30 years. She will discuss how she maintains a balance between work, family and health care concerns. This free Saint Barnabas presentation will be held at Temple B’nai Jeshurun, 1025 South Orange Avenue in Short Hills, N.J. Doors will open at 7:10 p.m. and the program will begin at 7:30 p.m. sharp. Ms. Vieira began her television career as a local reporter and anchor at WJAR-TV Providence, later making her way into the newsroom at WCBS-TV in New York City, where she was a reporter. She first gained national recognition as a CBS News reporter in Chicago from 1982 to 1984. She later became an award-winning correspondent for the CBS news-magazine shows, "West 57th" and "60 Minutes." Ms. Vieira served as co-anchor of the "CBS Morning News," as chief correspondent for the ABC news-magazine show "Turning Point," and as the moderator and co-host of ABC's "The View.” As the current host of the syndicated program "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?", Ms. Vieira is one of the rare television personalities to have two concurrent programs on air. An active philanthropist and health care advocate, Ms. Vieira is involved with the Big Apple Circus's Clown Care Program which brings professional performers into hospitals to entertain and empower children, their caregivers, and hospital staff. Saint Barnabas Medical Center is the first and only hospital in New Jersey to offer the unique program. She has first-hand experience in dealing with a family illness – her husband, Richard Cohen, lives with multiple sclerosis, diagnosed at 25, and is in remission from colon cancer. The program is part of “We Are Saint Barnabas!”, a week-long celebration recognizing the hard work and dedication of all those in the Saint Barnabas Medical Center family and showcasing the vital role that the hospital plays in the community.
