Randolph Woman Receives National Award for Grace Under Pressure Livingston, N.J. -- Recently, Marie A. Morgievich, MS, RN, APN,C, a transplant nurse practitioner and paired exchange coordinator, with The Renal and Pancreas Transplant Division of Saint Barnabas Health Care System, was recognized by the National Kidney Registry (NKR). The award was presented in Boston, MA, at NKR’s First Annual Awards Reception saluting and acknowledging the American transplant community. Ms. Morgievich received the Grace Under Pressure Award in the Human Achievement Awards category. The award recognizes one individual that has overcome significant challenges and remained cool and professional while managing the successful completion of a paired kidney exchange. The success of two large NKR kidney exchange chains involved several significant last minute changes that if not handled well, could have prevented 10 transplants from happening. Her creativity and fortitude were pivotal in allowing these exchanges to occur. Joining Saint Barnabas in 2003, she currently oversees patient-care and clinical aspects related to the Division’s Institute of Living Donation which offers paired exchange, altruistic donation and a program for incompatible transplant. Ms. Morgievich has a wealth of front line paired exchange experience, having coordinated more than 15 paired exchanges including a 12-way transplant in April 2009. "We are proud of Marie for receiving this award," says Shamkant Mulgaonkar, M.D., chief of the Renal and Pancreas Transplant Division of Saint Barnabas Health Care System. "She exemplifies our Transplant Team’s outstanding commitment to promote organ donation as the best treatment option for those with chronic kidney disease.” Ms. Morgievich completed her master of science in nursing at Columbia University School of Nursing, New York, and her bachelor of science in nursing at Seton Hall University, New Jersey. She received an associate in applied science from Bergen Community College, New Jersey, and her undergraduate degree in from Montclair State College, New Jersey. She has been a board member of the NKR Medical Board since 2009. Ms. Morgievich resides in Randolph, NJ, with her family. The Renal and Pancreas Transplant Division of Saint Barnabas Health Care System, located at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, N.J., is one of the largest programs among 240 in the country with more than 225 transplant surgeries performed each year, and more than 4,380 since 1968.
