Saint Barnabas Medical Center Presents Handling Weight Issues in Children – September 24, 2009

(Livingston, NJ) On Thursday, September 24, 2009, Saint Barnabas Medical Center and Outpatient Centers will launch the Mom to Mom Interactive Series.  The first program, Handling Weight Issues in Children, will feature, Debra Gill, PhD, Director, Healthy LIFE® -Weight Management Program.  She will be speaking about Handling Weight Issues in Children from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.  This free program will address why some kids gain weight more easily than others, how to bring up your concerns without making a child feel bad, how to accommodate kids of different body types in the same family, preventing eating disorders, and skills that help manage weight at any age.

Dr. Debra Gill, Ph.D is a Licensed Psychologist with more than 10 years experience running group programs for weight management. She has been featured in Family Circle and Parenting magazines for her work with teenagers and families who want to adopt more active and healthful ways of living. She has clinical expertise in treating individuals and addressing the emotional, social and practical complexities of weight loss, body image, eating disorders, and lifestyle change. She completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Weight Management and Eating Disorders at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center and earned a Ph.D. in clinical psychology at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and a B.A. as a Jefferson Scholar at the University of Virginia (UVA).
