Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at Saint Barnabas Medical Center Awarded National Certification

LIVINGSTON, NJ -- The cardiac rehabilitation program at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston is the first such facility in Essex County to receive national certification by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR).

Certification was granted after the cardiac rehabilitation program was rigorously reviewed by the national organization and found to meet the essential requirements for standards of care.

Cardiac rehabilitation programs are designed to limit the physiological and psychological effects of cardiac illness; reduce the risk for sudden death or relapse; control cardiac symptoms; stabilize and/or improve the patient's condition; and enhance the patient's quality of life.

The Jaqua Foundation Cardiac Rehabilitation Center at Saint Barnabas Medical Center is located within the hospital on Old Short Hills Road, and has been treating patients since 1992. The Center serves as the rehabilitation component of The HEART HOSPITAL of NEW JERSEY at Saint Barnabas Medical Center. Treatment is designed to complement the medical and/or surgical management of an individual's cardiac care by combining exercise and education to lead to improved health.

The AACVPR is a national, multi-disciplinary association dedicated to the improvement of clinical practice, promotion of scientific inquiry, and advancement of education for the benefit of cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation professionals and the patients they serve.
