President of New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners Joins
Saint Barnabas Medical Center as Director of Medical Education

Livingston, NJ -- Saint Barnabas Medical Center recently welcomed Gregory J. Rokosz, D.O., J.D., F.A.C.O.E.P., of Parsippany, N.J., as its new Director of Medical Education and Program Director of the Transitional Year Residency Program.  Dr. Rokosz is also the new Vice President for Medical Education for the Saint Barnabas Health Care System that encompasses ten hospitals, ten long-term care facilities, and a host of other health-related facilities throughout the State of New Jersey. 

Dr. Rokosz came to Saint Barnabas Medical Center from Union Hospital where he was Vice President for Medical Affairs for six years as well as Director of Medical Education for the past seven years. A former medical staff president, he was on staff at Union Hospital for nearly 20 years.

In his capacity as President of the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners, Dr. Rokosz is the chairperson for the Board’s monthly meetings and serves on numerous committees, among them, the Executive, Priority Review, North Jersey Preliminary Evaluation, Physician Impairment Review, Certified Nurse Midwife and Bioethics Committees. He also participates on numerous statewide task forces and is involved in a multitude of regulatory, public policy, and disciplinary matters. 

Dr. Rokosz received his bachelor’s degree in biological sciences with honors from Rutgers College—Rutgers, the State University. He received his medical degree from Des Moines University, College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery, Iowa. Thereafter, he completed post-graduate training at Metropolitan Hospital, Central Division, Philadelphia, Pa., and at Union Hospital. In 1999, Dr. Rokosz received a J.D. degree, magna cum laude, with a concentration in health law, from Seton Hall University School of Law where he was also a member of the law review.

He is board certified in both emergency medicine and family practice and is a fellow in the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians. Dr. Rokosz was the first emergency physician and the youngest physician to be elected President of the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners.

Dr. Rokosz holds numerous academic appointments, including clinical assistant dean and associate clinical professor of emergency medicine at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he is also vice chairman of their Educational Consortium Board of Directors. In addition, Dr. Rokosz held the position of assistant clinical professor of emergency medicine at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.  He is the recipient of numerous awards and honors as well as a member of more than a dozen prestigious professional organizations. He is published in both medical and legal literature.

Dr. Rokosz resides in Parsippany with his wife Christine and 12-year-old daughter Stefanie.
