Moms-In-Motion” Exercise Class Helps Moms-to-Be and
New Moms to Stay Fit

LIVINGSTON, N.J. -- Some of the most common discomforts associated with pregnancy, such as achiness and constipation, can be alleviated with good nutrition and exercise. To help new moms and moms-to-be cope with these discomforts, receive emotional support, and enjoy a positive pregnancy experience, physical therapists at Saint Barnabas Medical Center have devised “Moms-In-Motion,” a prenatal and postpartum exercise class. The class meets three times a week, on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, from 6 to 7:15 p.m. at the Medical Center.

Classes feature low-impact aerobics, strengthening and toning exercises intended for women during the childbearing year, and stretching and conditioning. Lectures and discussion on a host of prenatal and postpartum topics are also an ongoing feature of Moms-In-Motion. On a bimonthly basis, one class is dedicated to “Body Awareness.” This class focuses on proper posture, body mechanics during pregnancy and after birth, as well as stress reduction, and relaxation. Classes are $75/month and women may sign up at any time during their pregnancy or six weeks after giving birth. A prescription or signed registration form from one’s obstetrician/gynecologist is necessary to begin the class. For further information, please call (973) 322-5018 before 4 p.m., or (973) 322-7500 after 4 p.m.
