Saint Barnabas Announces New Chairman of Pathology Department

LIVINGSTON, NJ -- Robert R. Rickert, M.D., of Short Hills, N.J., was recently appointed Chairman of the Department of Pathology at Saint Barnabas Medical Center after serving as Co-Chairman of the Department for more than 25 years.

Board-certified in pathology, Dr. Rickert has published extensively in the medical literature and made numerous presentations at national and international conferences. He has contributed nearly 100 articles, book chapters and monographs on topics ranging from the pathology of gastrointestinal diseases to quality assurance programs in the pathology laboratory. A member of numerous professional and medical organizations, Dr. Rickert is a past president of the American Cancer Society, New Jersey Division, and is currently chief medical spokesperson for the Society’s Eastern Division. He is a past president of the Academy of Medicine of New Jersey, the New Jersey Society of Pathologists, the Oncology Society of New Jersey and the Gastrointestinal Pathology Society. Dr. Rickert also serves as Vice-Chair and Overseas Commissioner for the College of American Pathologists Laboratory Accreditation Program that accredits more than 6000 pathology and medical laboratories throughout the world. He is also listed in Woodward/White’s Best Doctors in America.

Dr. Rickert received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan, followed by his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Md. He did his postgraduate training in pathology at Yale-New Haven Medical Center in Conn. From 1964 to 1966 he was an officer in the U.S. Public Health Service assigned as a research associate to the Atomic Bomb Casualty Commission in Hiroshima, Japan.

For the past 15 years, Dr. Rickert has been Clinical Professor of Pathology at the UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School. He has also held academic appointments at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City, and at Yale University School of Medicine.

Dr. Rickert and his wife Sonja reside in Short Hills.
