Saint Barnabas Medical Center Adds Urgent Care Service LIVINGSTON, N.J. - Saint Barnabas Medical Center has once again expanded its emergency services with the addition of Urgent Care, a special center designed to treat walk-in patients with less severe injury and illness in a timely manner. The new six-bed Urgent Care facility is located within the Emergency Department and is staffed daily by a board-certified emergency physician. The center is also staffed by a dedicated and experienced emergency medicine nursing staff and a clinical technician. The facility also includes on-site radiology and laboratory testing. Treatment is available for both adults and children and typically involves conditions such as sprains, fractures, sports-related injuries, bronchitis, asthma, eye injuries, rashes, urinary tract infections and superficial burns. "We know that our patients are anxious to get back to their busy lives, so the Urgent Care Center provides a designated, board-certified emergency physician to care exclusively for patients with minor injuries or ailments," explains Christopher Freer, D.O., Co-Chairperson of Emergency Medicine. "This allows for a faster diagnosis, treatment and release of non-critical patients." "The addition of Urgent Care reinforces Saint Barnabas Medical Center's commitment to provide the community with state-of-the-art, convenient emergency care and complements the expansion of the Emergency Department in April of 2001," explains John F. Bonamo, M.D, Executive Director at Saint Barnabas Medical Center. Last year, Saint Barnabas Medical Center added 6,000 square feet to its Emergency Department nearly doubling the department's former size and increasing its capacity from 23 to 40 beds. The new design incorporates specific service areas such as Triage, Pediatric Care and Critical Care to allow the hospital's board-certified emergency physicians, nurses, technicians and support personnel to continue to provide the best in emergency health care to the nearly 60,000 patients treated each year.
