Ocean County Corrections Officer Donates Memorial Gift to Van Dyke Hospice Unit

Ocean County Corrections Department Corporal Jim Merrell is pictured presenting a check to Van Dyke Hospice Inpatient Unit Director, Suzanne Hart along with Rick Pallamary, Vice President for Development and staff member Barbara Busch.

Corporal Merrell’s partner was a patient on the Van Dyke Hospice Unit. He stated that he wanted to do something in her memory and decided on a Motorcycle Poker Run because of their mutual love of motorcycle riding. His decision to donate the proceeds from the event to Van Dyke Hospice Inpatient Unit was made because “She seemed the most at peace when she was here on the Unit.” and he wanted to give back to the place he felt cared for her with such compassion.

He plans on expanding the event next year to include a pig roast and hopes to make it an annual event. If you are interested in more information on the planned event, please email edorick@sbhcs.com or call 732-557-7021.
