Van Dyke Hospice and Palliative Care Center Offers Volunteer Training in Ocean County
To give from the heart, without strings, to be allowed to be part
of the most intimate time in a life, to help bring peace, to listen,
to just sit and hold a hand, to read, to comfort... Being
a friend to a terminally ill patient and their family can make a difference
in their life and yours.
This is what our Van Dyke Hospice Volunteers
live, breathe and give...
Are you ready to give the gift of comfort
and caring to those who need it most?
Training Program
The Training program for hospice volunteers has
been planned to provide a background of information
that will help you understand the dying patient and his/her family.
It is also intended to direct your attention to your own feelings
and attitudes toward death and loss. Each weekly session will therefore;
encompass not only material relevant to the hospice concept, but opportunities
to look at your past emotional reactions to death and what you may
expect in the future as a volunteer, working with hospice patients
and their families. The informative and interesting 10 session classes
are 2 hours in length. Certification requirements include attendance
at every session. Due to the curriculum, which includes professional
guest speakers, no make up classes are available.

Gardening Angels
Take time to smell the flowers….
The Gardening Angels Program was started in August
of 2001 as a means of providing a more relaxing environment for both
our hospice patients and their caregivers. We strive to provide floral
crafts, projects and plants that will allow our patients to gain insight
into their lives and find fulfillment in every day ordinary actions.
