The Adult Day Health Care Center
at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center offers a structured therapeutic
environment on a daily basis for older adults in the community, providing
stability and an improved quality of life. The center, which is wheelchair
accessible, is located in a spacious, comfortable setting, where clients
can enjoy a healthy, stimulating environment.
The clients seen at the Center are people with chronic medical conditions,
the frail elderly, people with dementias, and those who are unable to
be left home alone for various reasons.
- 60 years of age or over
- Be experiencing medical illness, cognitive
difficulties, and/or emotional problems
- Receive a medical assessment and physician’s
order prior to admission to the program
- Medical and nursing assessment
- Health monitoring
- Psycho-social evaluation/Case Management
- Cognitive rehabilitation and therapy, specifically
geared to Alzheimer’s clients
- Therapeutic recreational activities, daily
exercise, and socialization
- Off-site activities
- Restorative services; physical therapy, speech,
and hearing
- Intergenerational programming
- Referrals to dental, ophthalmology services,
and other specialty services
- Psychiatric and podiatric services
- Midday meal and snack
- Transportation: wheelchair lift equipped van
- Caregiver support and education group
The Center is funded by Medicaid, not
Medicare, the Alzheimer’s Grant
from the State of New Jersey (for those eligible
by diagnosis and income), and by private pay
(call for current rates).

The Adult Day Health Care Center is instrumental
in providing medical and supportive care to seniors
in the community, thus avoiding nursing home placement,
in a cost containment manner.
