What is an Angioplasty?

An angioplasty is a procedure in which a small balloon is inserted to open a blocked artery and restore blood flow to the heart. A heart attack can occur if that blood flow becomes completely blocked.

The purpose of the Atlantic C-Port Elective Angioplasty study is to compare clinical outcomes of those treated with elective angioplasty at hospitals with on-site cardiac surgery back-up versus those treated with elective angioplasty at hospitals, such as Clara Maass Medical Center or Community Medical Center, where there is no on-site back-up.
