Advanced cardiac electrophysiology services provide evaluation and
management of all types of heart rhythm problems including complex arrhythmias
like atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia. The evaluation
may include a simple recording of the heart rhythm, or invasive studies
employing catheters. Management ranges from the use of medications,
pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICD) to curative
procedures such as catheter-based and open or minimally invasive intra-operative
ablation.
The developing Atrial Fibrillation Center at Newark Beth Israel Medical
Center and Saint Barnabas Medical Center will offer the combined expertise
of a multidisciplinary team of cardiologists, electrophysiologists,
cardiac imaging specialists and cardiac surgeons. Atrial fibrillation
can be closely linked to mitral valve disease, high blood pressure or
other heart ailments. Integrated care and coordinated planning of the
most advanced treatment alternatives offer the best chance for cure.
