Dr. Victor Parsonnet, the Director of Surgical Research
and Medical Director of the Pacemaker Center, was recently
named as the American Heart Association's first-ever "American
Heart Association Visionary Award" , The award was
also renamed the "American Heart Association Victor
Parsonnet, M.D., Visionary Award" in his honor.
The award was recently bestowed upon Dr. Parsonnet at the
American Heart Association Affair of the Heart Gala. This
is the organization's premier event recognizing and celebrating
excellence in research, health care, treatment and community
involvement in cardiovascular diseases and stroke.
Dr. Parsonnet's career at The Beth, which his grandfathers,
Drs. Max Danzis and Victor Parsonnet, helped found and build
in 1921, has spanned nearly six decades. Dr. Parsonnet performed
New Jersey's first heart transplant, New Jersey's first kidney
transplant, installed the first nuclear-powered pacemaker
and helped pioneer the pacemaker, artificial heart and the
heart transplant. His visionary work has helped turn. The
Beth into one of the premier cardiac care and heart transplant
centers in the country.
