Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, NJ, was named among of the nation’s
top 50 hospitals for specialty care in Heart and Heart Surgery by U.S.
News Media Group’s 2009-10 America’s
Best Hospitals. Now in its 20th year, America’s Best Hospitals
guide ranks hospitals that excel in specified kinds of medical and surgical
care based on a variety of rigorous criteria.
The Heart Center at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, an affiliate
of the Saint Barnabas Health Care System, is one of only three cardiac
programs in New Jersey to achieve this status and is listed among nation’s
premier heart centers. “When the stakes are high, you want the
best care you can get for someone close to you,” said Avery Comarow,
Health Rankings Editor. “These are hospitals that are used to
getting the sickest patients.”
The specialty ranking in Heart and Heart Surgery were determined through
the collection of hard data and the measurement of four components:
reputation, death rate, patient safety, and care-related factors such
as nursing and patient services.
“The Heart Center at Newark Beth Israel excels in providing New
Jersey’s most comprehensive cardiac services,” said John
A. Brennan, MD, Executive Director of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center
and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey. “This impressive
designation underscores our commitment to bringing the finest care to
residents around the region.”
Newark Beth Israel Medical Center has a distinguished history in the
field of cardiology. Its pioneering physicians performed the first early
coronary bypass procedures as well as the first heart transplant in
New Jersey. Their work in the development and use of pacemakers is world
renowned. Building on that legacy, Newark Beth Israel’s nationally
respected cardiac physicians, surgeons and researchers continue to make
significant advances in cardiac care.
The Saint Barnabas Heart Center at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center
offers highly specialized care including minimally invasive and robotic-assisted
cardiac procedures, state-of-the-art technology that provides astounding
images of the heart for more precise diagnosis, and the latest generation
of circulatory assist devices designed to take over the pumping action
for a diseased heart. Its heart transplant program remains among the
most active in the country, ranking ninth in the nation by volume, with
short- and long-term graft survival rates that consistently exceed national
benchmarks. The specialized Valve Center and Atrial Fibrillation Center
offer the most advanced treatments for complex cardiac disease.
Technology, expertise and compassion are combined to provide today’s
most sophisticated care while leading the way in innovation for tomorrow.
