Lawrence R. McBride, MD, Surgical Director of Lung Transplant
at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, has been involved in
cardiac surgery, heart and lung transplantation and mechanical
circulatory support since 1984. He received his medical degree
from St. Louis University School of Medicine. After completing
his postgraduate training in cardiothoracic surgery, he became
a member of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at St.
Louis University where he also served as Professor of Surgery
and was the recipient of the endowed Tenant Chair of Cardiovascular
Surgery. Subsequently, he joined the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville,
Florida, as Chairman of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
Dr. McBride was also the Director of Heart and Lung Transplant
and Mechanical Circulatory Support at both institutions.
Dr. McBride is board certified in cardiothoracic surgery.
His fields of expertise include heart and lung transplantation,
mechanical circulatory support, the surgical treatment of
advanced cardiac disease, valvular heart disease and surgical
problems of the aorta including aneurysms and dissections.
Dr. McBride has been the principal investigator or co-investigator
on many clinical research trials. He is the published author
of nearly 100 articles and abstracts in peer-reviewed journals.
In addition, Dr. McBride has served on the editorial staff
of the Annals of Thoracic Surgery. He is a member
of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, the Society
of Thoracic Surgery, the Southern Thoracic Surgical Association
and the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation.
