Craig R. Saunders, MD, Chairman of Cardiothoracic Surgery
for the Saint Barnabas Health Care System, has pioneered
innovative surgical techniques and excels in personally delivering
these advance treatments to his heart patients. As a distinguished
surgeon and former Head of Affiliate Programs for the Cleveland
Clinic Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Dr. Saunders
and a renowned team of cardiac specialists throughout the
Saint Barnabas Health Care System are setting the standard
for excellence in cardiac care in New Jersey.
Dr. Saunders received his medical degree from the University
of Iowa, College of Medicine and completed postgraduate training
in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery at the Cleveland Clinic
Foundation, Cleveland, Ohio.
Dr. Saunders has a special interest in minimally invasive
surgery and is an accomplished surgeon in all aspects of
adult cardiac surgery. He serves as primary and co-investigator
on a number of ongoing research protocols and has served
on the editorial and advisory boards of a national peer review
journal. He has published, lectured and performed surgery
worldwide. He is a member of the American College of Chest
Physicians, American College of Surgeons, Society of Thoracic
Surgeons and the Thoracic Surgery Directors Association.
Dr. Saunders has been featured in a number of prime time
television documentaries in California and Ohio and won an
Emmy for the production of “Baseball, Apple Pie
and Heart Disease, an American Tradition.”
