Duraisamy Balaguru, MD, Pediatric Cardiologist, joined Children’s Hospital of New Jersey in 2006 from Tufts-New England Medical Center where he directed the pediatric cardiac catheterization laboratory. Board certified in pediatrics and pediatric cardiology, Dr. Balaguru received his medical degree from the University of Madras, India and completed residencies in pediatrics, neonatology and pediatric cardiology at several hospitals in the United Kingdom. In addition, he completed a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at New York University Medical Center, New York, NY; a clinical fellowship in interventional pediatric cardiac catheterization at Medical University of South Carolina Children’s Hospital, Charleston; and a fellowship in research, cardiac catheterization lab and cardiac intensive care at Children’s Hospital Boston, MA.
Dr. Balaguru has been an investigator in multiple clinical trials evaluating the use of transcatheter devices for congenital heart diseases, including PFO closure in adults after stroke (RESPECT trial) and in the international study evaluating the value of myocardial perfusion imaging in patients with Kawasaki disease. His other clinical and research interests are in the field of pediatric cardiac intensive care and transcatheter therapy of congenital heart defects both in children and adults.
