Mind/Body
Medicine focuses on the interactions between the mind and
the body and the powerful ways in which physical, emotional,
mental, social, and spiritual factors directly affect health.
Mind/Body Medicine involves the application of a variety
of psychological techniques and knowledge shown to be effective
in changing mood, behavior and consciousness.
Mind/Body modalities include:
A training technique
used to help people to understand their body signals to relax
tense muscles and to lessen or alleviate stress.
A therapeutic
approach focusing on the relationship between thoughts, feelings,
beliefs, behaviors and physiology.
The process of assisting
someone to create images in their mind, which induces a state
of peaceful relaxation. This is often accomplished through
reading descriptive passage to someone as they mentally imagine
a particular place or location.
The
process of inducing a state of concentration and responsiveness
to suggestion, thus allowing the mind's defenses to be bypassed
for positive and desirable changes in behavior.
The process of
teaching people to identify stress warning signals and effective
strategies to prevent and cope with the onset of stress.
A variety of group and individual techniques are available.
