The Lung Transplant Program's experienced, multidisciplinary
team provides the most comprehensive evaluation
and, when requested by a referring physician, ongoing
care for patients with advanced lung disease. The
individual expertise of specialists in the areas
of pulmonology, cardiothoracic surgery, cardiology,
infectious disease, physical medicine and rehabilitation,
social services, and palliative care is integrated
in reviewing the patient’s medical history, assessing the medical
condition and
psychosocial support system, as well as coordinating
care to maximize the quality of life.
At weekly
conferences the team discusses initial and follow-up
evaluations, provides comprehensive feedback to
the referring physician regarding treatment options,
and determines appropriate candidates for lung transplantation.
