Saint Barnabas Health Care System offers a variety of mental
health diagnosis and treatment alternatives for children
and adolescents age 5 to 17. A full continuum of care is
provided, beginning with the Children’s Crisis Intervention
Service (CCIS), an inpatient treatment program for children
who are experiencing severe psychotic or behavioral disorders.
The staff at CCIS consists of psychiatrists who are board
certified in child and adolescent psychiatry; and a multidisciplinary
team of social workers, RNs, mental health workers, and activity
therapists. In addition, a wide range of ambulatory programs
of varying intensities are available through the Therapeutic
Learning Center (TLC) and the Community Mental Health Center
to treat children and adolescents with a variety of behavioral
difficulties such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
(ADHD), aggression, depression, and impulse control.
The goal
of CCIS is to stabilize the patient within a short period
of time and develop a discharge plan for a successful transition
to community-based services.
