A Special Fifth Year Anniversary Edition of Transplant News

The Saint Barnabas Health Care System Renal and Pancreas Transplant Centers have established a nationally recognized program built on more than three decades of technical excellence, clinical research and advocacy for the growing number of people who are choosing the transplant alternative.
Performing more transplants than any other hospitals in New Jersey, New York, Philadelphia and Boston, the Saint Barnabas Renal and Pancreas Transplant Centers have consistently exceeded national averages for both short-term and long-term graft survival rates for patients of all ages. In this, our Fifth Year Anniversary Edition of Transplant News, we feature five articles that summarize the leading transplant accomplishments that have led to today’s advances.
Among the most progressive transplant programs in the country, the Renal and Pancreas Transplant Centers of Saint Barnabas and Newark Beth Israel Medical Centers are providing more opportunities for area residents with end stage renal disease. By bringing laparoscopic kidney retrieval to the Garden State, the number of living donors has increased by almost 40 percent in just four years. Additional advances in pancreas transplantation and pediatric nephrology and transplantation have expanded services for diabetics and very young children with renal failure, vastly improving these individuals’ quality of life. The Renal and Pancreas Transplant Centers also demonstrate a firm commitment to transplantation through their dedication to research and are the only renal transplant program in New Jersey involved in extensive clinical research trials for patients.
While it is difficult to predict how renal transplantation will change in the next five years with advances in xenotransplantation and biotechnology, one thing is clear. The Renal and Pancreas Transplant Centers of the Saint Barnabas Health Care System will be at the cutting edge – bringing the highest quality care to patients in need.
