What to Expect

Before your surgery:

  • Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night prior to your scheduled procedure.

  • If you become ill (cold, fever, rash), telephone your doctor.

  • Laboratory tests and x-rays will be performed within 30 days of surgery. Arrangements for pre-admission testing will be made by your physician if he/she feels that would be best for you.

The day of surgery:

  • Please do not bring any valuables with you to the hospital.

  • Bring a list of medications you are currently taking.

  • You will check in with our security guard in our Main Lobby. He/she will direct you to the appropriate location.

While you are in surgery, the surgical waiting room is available to your loved ones. There they may wait comfortably for a report on the outcome of the surgery.

When your surgical procedure is done, you will be taken first to the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), then transferred to an inpatient unit.

Your discharge from the hospital:

  • Your physician will determine when you are ready to go home. It is important that you check out as soon as possible after you are discharged. On the day of discharge, you must have a family member or friend accompany you home.
