Adrenalectomy

The adrenal glands -- small triangular organs located above each kidney -- are responsible for producing hormones, including cortisol, sex hormones and adrenaline. The adrenals can develop benign or malignant tumors that require removal. One adrenal gland is adequate for normal function, but small doses of steroids can be prescribed if both glands are removed. Using the da Vinci® S Surgical System’s enhanced visualization and dexterity capabilities, surgeons can dissect the adrenals while minimizing the risk of damage to the kidneys and other adjacent structures.
