Robotic Surgery On Track to Perform 100th Case
at Community Medical Center

February 29, 2008, Toms River, NJ - Robotic surgery has been in place at Community Medical Center since mid 2007 and is being used for urologic and gynecologic procedures. Based on our current volume, it is anticipated that Community Medical Center will perform its 100th case in April.

The robotic surgery team consists of 10 surgeons who are trained to perform robotic surgery and a staff of nurses, surgical technicians and anesthesiologists. The robot functions as an extension of the surgeon’s skilled hands. Special instruments are used that are “wristed” to function like a human hand but are only 8mm in size as opposed to a traditional “non-wristed” laparoscopic instrument or the large size of a human hand. For the patient this means significantly less pain, scarring and recovery time.

For additional information on robotic surgery check out the Community Medical Center web site or call 1-888-SBHS-123 for a referral to a physician who performs robotic surgery at Community Medical Center.
